E-40: My Ghetto Report Card

The Yay Area’s "Ambassador" is back with the right machine behind him to catapult him into the superstar status he’s deserved for years. Along with 40 Water, he’s brought the Hyphy movement to the forefront with him with the hyphy anthem "Tell Me When To Go", featuring the town’s own Keak Da Sneak over a Lil Jon slapper. Giving that classic Bay sound a new feel, which helped the resurgence of the Nor-Cal scene, Lil Jon showed his versatility as a producer through this album. Usual suspects Bosko and Rick Rock add to the production credits nicely as Rick Rock opens up the album with the Digable Planets sampled "Yay Area." 40’s son Droop-E shows he’s no slouch behind the boards as well with "Sick Wit It 2" featuring Turf Talk. Although this is a great album, I do feel there were too many guest appearances and that it tapers down toward the end; my biggest disappointment being no Click reunion song. I see this album like Jay-Z’s Volume 2, which wasn’t his best album, but did throw him into superstar status, like "My Ghetto Report Card" is definitely doing for the timer Forty Water.
