We thank him for taking time from his daily duties to speak with me. We hope to encourage more bloggers to spend time exchanging ideas, as opposed to merely relaying them. No disrespect to info blogs, more a plea for unification.
Peep a fine musical selection feat ANON here prod by Moon Satellite: http://twiturm.com/dhknx
The interview took place online and has been kept in that format. We hope you enjoy.
moonbeats: yo
megabusive: evening sir. how’s it?
moonbeats: pretty good… labbin out all weekend
just made something im happy with
u?
megabusive: dope. weekend has been busy over here. had a show with caddy ron n innaspace last night then a video shoot for the homie rey resurreccion today. couple shows to go to tonight.
madness
haha
moonbeats: that’s the shit
i saw the pics u posted
fav pic: homeboy rhymin with merch in hand
gangsta
lol
megabusive: that’s the homie mario g. the cd’s were damaged goods by the homie cynic one. mario was actually hosting. he puts a lot into it like a rhymer. hahaha
moonbeats: word
megabusive: so you mentioned you had made something you were happy with…mind expanding on that?
moonbeats: yeah im making a beat cd, right now called “M LAZERS VOLUME ONE”… the mission statement is beats that will make people’s faces melt
so all beats all weekend pretty much
i’ve put some serious stuff on the cutting floor, but that’s how it is
…. just because its a “look ma.. no hands.. magic man” beat doesn’t matter lol
megabusive: i feel you. i’m buried in material cut from projects. songs that are homeless on some asking for particular denomination handouts “sir…do you have 50 cents?”
moonbeats: right these beats are strongly motivated by need for money
i make shit to trip off of… but these are intended for people’s albums
or some trust fund kid’s demo lol
megabusive: it’s tough being creative…but somehow you manage to balance facemelt capacity with pursuing and unearthing the works of others…how far back do you go with your journalistic exploits?

moonbeats: wow… the first thing i can remember is going to Morehouse in ’96 and being introduced to “the internet”.. and immediately trying to figure it out, so off to the computer lab i went… the resident hackers put me on to geocities and i made this ruff magazine of sorts… wrote an article pondering the fate of the Pharcyde.. rememer this was 96.. lol
i’ve always been fascinated with interviews.. i’m an interview junkie
first person i interviewed… it was either Talib Kweli and Phife at the same show back stage or the 5 Deadly Venoms… u remember them?
megabusive: oh boy…kool keith and sprite. i love it
moonbeats: right lol… during the interview, which was done in the back of Yin Yang Cafe, a legendary Atlanta club that’s been replaced since, i accidentally headbutted N Tyce…. she was ticked
lol
megabusive: in that era sprite hella tasted like rhyming black kung fu
moonbeats: uh huh it was a weird ass time
megabusive: it was sorta ok to read the source back then
moonbeats: yeah, high school for me was right at the best time for The Source
megabusive: yeah…i graduated in ’96…ill al skratch had come and went
out here at least
i had a bright red promo shirt of theirs
moonbeats: yeah i got into my promo shirt thing crazy 97 – 2000 – i used to promote in atlanta
megabusive: we always waited for a gravediggaz shirt but they didn’t drop until it was too late
moonbeats: damn – an official shirt if there ever was one
megabusive: a definite ebay dig for those so inclined
moonbeats: hell yeah
megabusive: so…as a journalist, do you feel that your insight into the thoughts and views of other artists gives you a leg up when creating your own material and imaging how it will fair in the marketplace?
moonbeats: 5 years ago it would have, back when i was writing for Rime magazine, but the market has changed so much.. i’ve seen more genuine insight into artists since i started my Twitter account January ’09… been to people’s labs and homes… and saw stuff that changed my mind about things… because when I was writing before it was easier for artists to put on “the show”… when I create I zone out and leave Earth… but the one thing my journalistic endeavors influence is how i create awareness once my stuff is made
but the blog thing and the magazine thing are two distant yet close and bizarre cousins
megabusive: i feel you. i’m real backward with mine. everyone is going digital, and I think it’s the perfect time to strong-arm smash on print media. do you feel any real viability will be regained by paper publishing with the advent of things like ipads and other such devices designed with some or full intention to display “print” media?
moonbeats: i don’t think so… because print media was caught slippin. last year a lot of major magazines went thru identity crises where online they didn’t know if they were blogs or not… some of them even ran stories with bad html code, lol… it was a mess. i think news media is relatively more stable than music press. actually a lot more stable.
when music print magazines were at their height, the climate for artists was still “Wizard of Oz”… artists were on the receiving end and everybody else pulled the strings and ate from the same cluttered table… magazines, marketing, studios, tv, radio, everything…
the cheapness of DAWs was the boulder that pierced the wall, so to speak
so that dependancy isn’t near as strong
that artists once had for music press
megabusive: do you think the future of music promotion will see computerized displays in place of magazine racks where people can come swipe their phones and download a virtual mag?
moonbeats: as long as it’s convenient for people. it will be a long time coming tho… because at the grocery store the average person treats the self checkout line like they were asked to do quantum physics blindfolded on mescaline
and i’m standing behind them in line with a melting quart of ice cream lol
megabusive: i ask the question because i see magazines much like televisions…they are meant to occupy idle time. i think as long as peoploe are bored, people will still stand at the grocery store and read magazines
this is a simplified idea
i guess i’m really taking this print media overhaul very seriously
haha
its like the nearly dead sleeping giant
moonbeats: it’s a big thing, like i said, I’m an interview junkie, i spent countless hours in middle school at book stores, reading obscure mags…. i have relative disdain for the politics that go behind music press… writers basically blackmailing artists to feature them prominently… and media moves faster than once a month now… so it’s weird… i prefer blogs nowadays… because even tho its some kid who might have less tools to communicate and a way smaller rolodex, i can fill in the blanks… i’m a weird case as a blogger because i’ve been a journalist so i’ve seen both sides… and magazines are pretty traffic jam-prone.
but u know what?
it’s the diminished quality too
i remember when magazines, and i’m talking hip-hop, were really, really good… i would finish an article and want to hang it on my wall like a poster, and i mean the words and the pictures alike
megabusive: The source issue with TATS crew KRS and JOEY CRACK stayed on my wall for years
amongst others. ras kass remain anonymous quotable
moonbeats: right!
day in the life article in Rap Pages w/ Aceyalone, S.I.N., Erule
Western Hemisfear
i recall that article yearly
megabusive: it’s crazy to see where we’ve come from to where we are
pointblank newsletter and unsigned and hella broke need to come back
hip-hop tape trade fanzines
crucial
moonbeats: i missed UHB – i wasn’t able to find copies back then! i was into Subculture, outta Chicago
megabusive: and virtually extinct like open mics at rap shows
subculture was a real mag though, right
like color and shit
?
moonbeats: yeah, some black and white, but mostly color
megabusive: yeah…i remember
damn…we’ve been doing this a while
moonbeats: word lol
megabusive: then things like 4080 and murder dog hit the scene
all having their own impact
moonbeats: right
megabusive: i wonder if advertising is what keeps a lot of these mags from thriving. (rhetoric)
moonbeats: yeah and the changing of the guard… the writers move on, or the magazine loses the support boost it has at one time
megabusive: “ad space involving culture isn’t viable unless the culture is being exploited”
moonbeats: i remember when the Rap Pages crew moved on to working for labels and other stuff… broke my heart lol
uh huh
megabusive: yeah…the a&r years
moonbeats: right
megabusive: mail in a&r credentials telling people to wear their pants backward
moonbeats: LOL
“how can i finangle some money this month” lol
megabusive: “i used to work for a magazine…i know what’s hot…we’re gonna make you huge like johnny gill!”
moonbeats: lol right
megabusive: singin my my my mamamy
moonbeats: a&rs running game
megabusive: now they say the a&r is obsolete
i blame the blog
it’s a vicious cycle
moonbeats: it is
i don’t know what the A&R does… but i will say The A&R’s jumped the shark before blogs got huge
i remember… when Nelly happened
megabusive: for sure
moonbeats: they realized…
moonbeats: “all we gotta do is find ‘local sensations’ and put a little money behind them”… and so died the idea of actually finding talent
megabusive: oh my…the first time i heard “we’re goin’ down down baby” i was by the great mall in milpitas thinking “what the fuck is this blatant ass coonery?!?!”
megabusive: shimmy shimmy cocoa puff and street sweeper do not go in the chorus. FAIL
moonbeats: right
megabusive: well, i will say that the st. lunatics did a great thing for half-mask wearing fuckjobs around the universe
moonbeats: yeah they revolutionized it
they “half-masked” the game
and THAT guy gets a royalty check from ASCAP or BMI… maybe.
megabusive: he deserves one
phantoms of the colostomy
moonbeats: LOL
megabusive: and i hope he gets paid for every needle prick a chinese child receives while stitching a pair of apple bottoms for kids
moonbeats: right… which he’s clueless about, which makes it so sad
and ironic
megabusive: apple bottoms for kids should be brought up on charges
moonbeats: there are apple bottoms for KIDS?
megabusive: oh man…i was seeing the ads in dallas when i was on tour last summer. really fucked me up
moonbeats: see, that’s why i don’t own a tv… for real, that kind of shit is why… but i know when it’s time to have kids i have to come back to see what the rest of the world is watching…. twitter trending topics will have to do for now
lol
Nelly’s going to swipe credit cards in stripper’s buttcheeks for eternity… in hell.
megabusive: i saw the ads in the mall. hella big
moonbeats: damn
this world’s going batshit crazy
wait… it’s GONE batshit crazy
megabusive: whats crazy…i tried to shit on a credit card machine to buy some air force 1′s after watching that video. not hot.
moonbeats: lol that’s extracurricular
megabusive: ey…i figure…if stupid people say to do something, i should do the exact opposite
moonbeats: uh huh
makes sense… if a rapper said chicken noodle soup with a soda on the side… Tachos (taco nachos) with water
megabusive: blammo
it doesn’t take a home ec teacher to figure this out
speaking of home ec teachers…kill fuck marry: Uggs, Flip-flops, Birkenstocks and why:
moonbeats: one for each? or can i kill them all… wait, my lady has this knack for picking respectable looking Birkenstocks that i never see anywhere else… and then i’ll see some DUDE in some open toes and throw up a little in my mouth
i forgot what uggs are
i was influenced by GZA.. “that shit is weak and feminine like sandals”… im a house shoes and slippers kinda cat… or flip flops and socks, shout out to late 90s ATL
“minimum and feminine like sandals”.. gotta get the line right.. i think thats it
megabusive: so you’d agree with killa that jay shouldn’t have been caught wearing the flip flops with the socks?
oh no wait
moonbeats: jay’s more awkward than everyone wants to admit.
i still cant believe he raps
megabusive: the flip flops with the socks is cool
my bad
moonbeats: not when jay did it
lol
megabusive: IT’S THE JEANS WITH THE THINGS AND NO SOCKS
moonbeats: YEAH
megabusive: THONGS
moonbeats: thats what it was
CHANCLETAS
megabusive: right
moonbeats: as Cam put it
megabusive: the choncletas with jeans on? how the king of new york…and so on
moonbeats: yeah… the only reason we know who Jay is, is because he attached himself to people’s concepts of prosperity… because he tried three careers before this… first he was High Potent…
then Lil Daddy Kane… then tiggity tiggity Jaz’s sidekick
attach yourself to people’s sense of prosperity and/or lack thereof.. and bingo was his name-o
megabusive: i hate jay-z. for the record
i don’t hate him like i hate a lot of other shit…but he was definitely the first rapper to make me hate them for rapping on a boat or being on some wannabe don shit
if pac and big were still alive, he’d be like spliff star or u-god
moonbeats: yup
and rap would be GREAT
rap is making a comeback tho
hip-hop is BACK for sure
and i mean… the “feeling” is back… the music is catching up…
part of the reason i think people crave what they feel Jay Electronica is offering… that “feeling”
megabusive: i’m going to keep tight-lipped on JE until i hear more music.
moonbeats: yeah, I’m curious
megabusive: people pumping him were pumping asher roth
and why would nas’ opinion matter to me in ’10?
moonbeats: Right!
lol
i gave up on Nas in ’08 and gave that slot to Elzhi
megabusive: i forgot nas rapped after ether
n*gg*r was a bad move
moonbeats: sheesh… all that stuff
megabusive: def jam was a bad move
moonbeats: since… Illmatic
i do like “Stillmatic” tho
megabusive: nas…if you’re reading this…let me be your a&r…you’ll be huge like johnny gill!
i think stillmatic should be renamed ether
moonbeats: LOL… if “Stillmatic” was his debut.. i’d be like “yeah, this new guy outta queens, he’s got potential”
yeah
megabusive: i like the album a lot
almost as much as big doe rehab
moonbeats: see… i miss the Ghostface and Superb days… so it’s tough to listen to the recent stuff
to me, that “Supreme”, “Bulletproof” era was the answer to rap
for REAL
megabusive: we celebrate and white linen affair make me feel like peace has a chance, and having it come from ghost was like electric…and barrell brothers is ridiculous
moonbeats: i gotta go back and listen again… i only remember “celebrate”
the last Ghost song i lost my mind over was the last track of “Bulletproof”… w/ the “dump my ashes out the window like i never heard the info”… that and “Holla” and “Guerilla Hood”
megabusive: ghost has yet to let me down. and he’s done tracks with el-p and doom
moonbeats: yeah, “Angeles” w/ Doom is Serious
megabusive: i wouldn’t mind getting those accs
moonbeats: i read somewhere, that’s a Subroc beat
indeed… as certain peeps know, I’m a acapella fiend… somewhat of a ninja at times, too haha
megabusive: i’ll trade you emulated video games and self destructive cracked DAW apps
haha
moonbeats: lol
megabusive: this interview is getting to new york times online proportions. we just broke the enron scandal
moonbeats: dope… next we’re going #stardust
megabusive: the molds are in the mail
moonbeats: lol
megabusive: with the latinum mini cd’s
moonbeats: of course
megabusive: latinum is worth it’s weight in latinum
moonbeats: LOL
and tradable for ‘platnum’
megabusive: i love america. the land where one’s merits are measured in “precious” metals
moonbeats: lol
megabusive: so you wanna give people the general run down of what you have going on and what you have in store for the coming decades?
moonbeats: yeah… this face melting beat cd entitled “M LAZERS VOLUME ONE”, which is NOT an album, but a resoucre for artists and companies who need that good media.. and it will be available in different means than usual so stay tuned… there’s a free album out there by an incredible Atlanta MC named Anon… the album is called “L’ete Noir” and can be found on my Twitter page, http://twitter.com/Moonsatellite and Anon’s which is http://twitter.com/AnonymousTheory. Another version of it is dropping sooner than you blink. I’m working with a lot of very dope artists, most immediately Ekundayo of Atlanta’s Liuns Den, who is a fierce lyricist, we have a song with Mike Flo and El Sun dropping called “African Dance Class”. look out for that please. Check my blog, Culture King, just google it. it’s a labor of love. and my youtube channel has LA stuff on it, tho i officially claim the World as my location. We’re global citizens, anyway
i know i forgot something
lol
oh yeah
i’m dropping this crazy funk album next year where i plan to paint my face green on the cover unless i am convinced otherwise
megabusive: i can dig it
moonbeats: forgot to say – I Produced the Anon album
oops lol
megabusive: see we save that stuff for the middle of the interview to make sure people read it. now we get into the meat and potatoes. TOMFUCKERRYGATE 2010
moonbeats: oh yeah
megabusive: premidated battle raps?
moonbeats: wow.
…… i’ll make some observations
megabusive: THE WRITTEN REVOLUTION WILL BE SPELLCHECKED – EDITOR’S NOTE
moonbeats: instead of a complete stance so as to protect the egos of the rappers who are building careers based on battling….
observation #1… i can’t believe it when one of these rappers forgets his rhyme… but the rules of competition state that you can go to the opponent’s social networking sites beforehand..
and create valid arguments as to why that person is wack. i’m tripped out at the unimaginative stuff these guys come with….
or when someone freestyle’s their round.. and the hosts say “they’re FREESTYLING.. you gotta give ‘em extra credit for that”…WHAT PART OF THE GAME IS THAT?
observation #2… it’s very, very hard to translate battle attention to career attention. it just is. it’s like starting a fight on purpose and after the fight, passing out flyers to the boxing class you teach
people aren’t gonna care much after the spectacle
megabusive: i think a few cats do the battle shit real well…
moonbeats: yeah Marv Won is hilarious, every time
megabusive: according to it’s “rules” and “structure” some artists have found solid ground to stand on
i’m into rheteric, cadalack ron, nocando, open mike eagle, locksmith, dirtbag dan and tyger ty at the present
no coleco
moonbeats: right
megabusive: and sahtyre
moonbeats: yeah, it’s cool to watch here and there… the thing is.. i prefer premeditated verses to hear where the mc’s writing is…
but other than people you’re naming… what the hell….
my goodness
maybe if it wasn’t focused on battling..
for example.. i prefer mcs on the radio to do writtens
i dont wanna hear you ramble for 60 seconds.. unless you’re a dope freestyler
which is all too rare in rap, crazily enough
megabusive: well, it’s cool. it doesn’t matter anymore. it’s thunderdome in this bitch. lots of tina turners that don’t need heroes.
moonbeats: uh huh… it’s definitely thunderdome. so savage it’s funny
megabusive: there should be a call to arms for all those with any sense of history or legacy to start history checking kids. be like “name one member of hobo junction that isn’t saafir”
moonbeats: right… and all these battle kids NEED to listen to certain battles to even begin to qualify… “Busy Bee vs Kool Moe Dee”… “Hiero vs Hobo”
and diss records..
“Bridge Is Over”, “No Vaseline”
megabusive: talking about some of these new age kids, i’d prefer they didn’t try to make anymore songs. stick to the A cappella pre-med dozens and leave the recorded music to dedicated professionals
moonbeats: yeah – that makes sense.. they should treat the battles like songs, somehow
megabusive: but of course it could never be that way
moonbeats: right
megabusive: hence the dynamic itself
it is the answer to it’s own question…”how do we do all the stuff we’re not supposed to and get away with it?”
moonbeats: LOL
right
megabusive: ok fuck that shit
moonbeats: lol
megabusive: big ups to the cats that are GOOD at it…let’s move on
moonbeats: right, big up if you’re putting your all into it… stay focused and don’t “Gold Rush” the shit
megabusive: jah bless
now…
you mentioned you don’t watch television. does that mean you do not catch episodes of shows via rental, online purchase, stream or download?
moonbeats: I sparingly follow shows online.. I mostly watch Youtube.. I have a Netflix account for me and my lady, we watch way more movies than TV shows.. we bought a tv to see Barack Obama become president, then returned it two weeks later… but yeah I’m a YouTube fanatic
megabusive: i was going to ask you about chuck and 30 rock
moonbeats: i’m clueless to those shows.. i’ve seen 79 seconds of each
megabusive: i will say this. culturally, humans are very interesting when engaged in comedic acts
moonbeats: life is comedy
people are utterly hilarious
i sit on the bus and just watch and laugh to myself. not out of malice of laughing AT people, but ABOUT them
megabusive: like when you see “that one broad” smoking a newport 100 in bootie shorts at 10:40 am doing a dance next to the car while homie in the dodgers in-game hat is on his cellphone?
moonbeats: absolutely, the transit “morning special”. i’ll tell you the funniest thing i read today: at one point Scott Storch ate gold dusted cheeseburgers.
GOLD.
DUSTED.
CHEESEBURGERS.
megabusive: i saw you mention that on twitter
moonbeats: $175
I almost changed my twitter bio to “Gold Dusted Cheeseburgers”
megabusive: i poured goldschlager on a …actually…i’ll keep that in the pocket.
moonbeats: word LOL. don’t be surprised if you see a free download called “GDC” in the future
megabusive: let me do a remix “stardusted triple cheeseburger”
moonbeats: YES – Deal.
Triple
LOL
megabusive: that is going to be there as a classic with Fundamental Basketball by Barfly produced by Computer Chip coming soon (shameless as fuck, with a british accent)
moonbeats: GOT TO BE with a british accent, word to Ghostface
“Rap with a british accent” is one of the greatest lines of rap… because he didn’t SAY IT with a british accent!
megabusive: anyone who says “the way i fell cracked the face of my watch” is obviously of a different class.
moonbeats: oh yeah
Tony For Mayor
megabusive: it always comes back to ghost
ok…we’re on the same page
hahaha
moonbeats: LOL

megabusive: i’m glad we both know more about the dips than asher roth
speaking of asher roth…
kid cudi?
moonbeats: no. and i’ll tell you why. he failed the Dilla test. he rhymed over “Wild” and gave me the kinda headache you get after a bad nap
it was a dirty stinking shame.
megabusive: it wasn’t the profuse flat manners of describing himself and his less than interesting jaunts through everyday life?
moonbeats: somehow he managed to make it whiny.. like the other stuff i’ve heard of his.. i’ve heard 245 seconds of his music, by choice
including the “Wild” fiasco, about 400 seconds
and i’ll never get them back
megabusive: i’m so glad i have no idea what you’re talking about
i heard day n nite…made a remix. tried to forget
moonbeats: right
day n nite just sounded like some slightly dubby cyndi lauper, snl 80s era stuff to me
megabusive: hype kills
and i am not with this new boutique rapper movement
if you were skating in the 80′s 90′s and never stopped, then transitioned into “streetwear”…ok. but if you hit the scene rocking some goofy ass shit just because it’s expensive you are being an idiot.
and exploiting culture that was once mocked
they didn’t have to pay those dues
moonbeats: it’s the new “gangsta rap”
a lotta squares put on dickies in the 90s and ran to warner bros front office…
not a lotta regular dudes who run with rappers decide to pull out catalogs and buy weird looking shoes, then run to fashion blogs…
Zappa had it right
when he said “Movements are stupid.”
which is why i left my rap group back in 2002, cut my hair and listened to Funkadelic and Prince records for six years
megabusive: it takes these types of things
i listen to very little rap music
or any music at all
just the stuff i really like
which isn’t much
and i listen to myself 90% of the time
do you enjoy listening to your own music?
moonbeats: certain pieces… i’m VERY critical. in fact, anything people have heard from me, meaning the free downloads on twitter, “L’ete Noir”, the “Starship 27″ song, etc.. was stuff that i can listen to and like so much that i act silly when i dance to it. my ultimate stamp of approval of my own stuff is if i can listen to it while i shop for groceries
if i can drive around to it, you’ve probably heard it or had access to hear it
megabusive: to me that says the most about an artist. how they feel about their own material, and how they articulate that.
i like your music
that could get you banned from certain massage parlors
moonbeats: right
lol
massage parlors? u mean antagonistic music?
because antagonism can be the shit
megabusive: oh i mean, having me as a supporter could get you banned
hahaha
moonbeats: oh all good
THANK YOU
I appreciate it, i’m SO appreciative that you like it. i remember sending mixtape material thru myspace years ago and not getting so much as an eyeblink
im always glad when anyone is moved enough to say ANYTHING about my music
that’s my long way of saying.. THANK YOU. lol
megabusive: man. i’m a fucking basehead sometimes. all over the place. i’m surprised people even associate themselves with me or my opinions. a lot of ruffled feathers ain’t led to much but conflict and the people not having what they deserve. i’m starting to realize this and thanks to people like yourself i feel as though we finally have a niche and we’re going to get something out of all this.
i know i have to tell people what i think, not just think it
it doesn’t matter if you don’t tell anyone, if there’s no money being exchanged
moonbeats: i think the point of this social networking is to TELL EVERYONE. tell people our truths. if Andy Applebee can tell me he had an omelet yesterday and i can tell him i had orange lemonade today, then i got a LOT more to tell. we have great resources and the industry crumbled years ago
this is the shit in so many ways
i mean, being able to interact with Yaggfu Front and Count Bass D can do some great things for one’s perspective
the traffic jam has dissolved
which is why I’m listening to the most rap i have in YEARS, literally
megabusive: same here
and other shit
like electro
which brings us to that bag of fun
top 40 remixes vs underground mc’s for electro producers?
moonbeats: i’m impervious… and I really should be up to speed on things… but i did see this crazy commercial for an underground battle mc turned electro group member… i was waiting for the “just kidding, guys”.. instead i got a URL and release date.
but both of those seem so fleeting
a small number of early birds come up doing it and fools rush in
im over here listening to the Higher Learning soundtrack while cats are out there practicing their robo voices.. i dunno lol
megabusive: touche
haha
for some reason i expected some talking points, but fuck it…
moonbeats: blame it on my lack of awareness
megabusive: let’s talk about no limit and cash money
moonbeats: LOL
megabusive: because
i think if c-murder and turk made an album it’d be fucking sick
moonbeats: the thing about that period…. i am a recovering rap elitist. i’m a bit embarrassed now, but i used to walk around with my backpack on, pushing my views on people with empassioned tirades…
megabusive: with weezy on the harmonica and knee tambourine
moonbeats: so i missed the value of no limit and cash money
no – weezy on guitar
certain beats from no limit were undeniable… for example
i remember back in 96 going to the skating rink with a bunch friends… and we heard “No Limit Soilder” for the first time… the beat was BANGING… but i hated, because i had busta rhymes and tribe in the tape deck and complained that it wasn’t “saying anything”… but the beat was knocking
by the time i came outta that…
Snoop had dropped his DoggyStyle Allstars album and i went crazy… a slept on classic by the way
megabusive: i’m gonna keep my views on snoop in the pocket.
moonbeats: word lol
Snoop is a loaded issue
megabusive: you can’t be kicking over buildings. people’s lives are in danger.
moonbeats: but here comes the “what the hell is moon talkin about” quote of the interview……
DoggyStyle Allstars had the potential to be Snoop’s “The Chronic”
rap scholars can direct all arguments to http://twitter.com/Moonsatellite
lol
megabusive: ey…i’m going to have to go back on that one
this is the thing
i took snoop mad serious with the busted un-cut and dickies suits with hoodies
like a festivus pole dressed as a michigan mechanic
moonbeats: LOL
LOL
megabusive: and the weed hat
moonbeats: serious as in you thought he was being sincere?
megabusive: that caught on way harder than the phillies blunt tee
i believed in him
he didn’t seem pimp insane back then
weird to watch him become a pimp when he got rich
moonbeats: right
that’s the thing… i’m not that mad at it because his beats got dope again when he went pimpish
at least for a while
megabusive: well, i don’t know him…he may very well have been pimpin’ in LBC
i don’t doubt his credibility
moonbeats: i know what u mean
it was a DRASTIC shift
and outta nowhere
and it was weird… i figure it was the most convenient way to claim “gangsta”
megabusive: it was best when he was on no limit. in his movie he commando jumped into a well
moonbeats: which is my problem with “Cuban Linx 2″… it’s hard to listen to Raekwon speak in present tense about crimey shit
so Snoop may have figured.. “hey, pimps are assumed to have money… maybe i can pull this off”
megabusive: none of that stuff ever makes sense to me. i still believe in malcolm
it’d be sick if gangster rap had a tax and they had to donate 50% of gross profit to school programs
moonbeats: hell yeah
megabusive: every mention of a felonious act should incur a particular tariff
and you could get incentives for saying nice things
like VIP treatment at the DMV
moonbeats: uh huh
lol
reminds me of Demolition Man
fines for cursing
megabusive: shit makes hella sense. bring on the police state. governmentalize big business and health care
oh wait
thats socialism
moonbeats: …….. right
megabusive: damn ruskies
i’m buying nukes
moonbeats: lol
megabusive: what are your feelings on the minutemen?
moonbeats: i’m not up on them… sounds familiar
megabusive: the cats who find it their civil liberty to independently patrol the mexican border…not the canadian border, mind you…
moonbeats: damn, naw i gotta study up
megabusive: didn’t mean to go all geopolitical on you
moonbeats: all good lol
megabusive: culture king is for the kids
moonbeats: gave me something to check out
it’s all good
megabusive: trying to teach the babies
moonbeats: culture king luh the kids
like Marty-Mar
megabusive: do you have children of your own?
moonbeats: nope.
megabusive: nice. we don’t have to get into private vs public…unless you have thoughts on the matter
moonbeats: what do u mean?
megabusive: schools
moonbeats: oh
yeah it’s cool… it’s tough… i spent a lot of time in both… there are negatives to both
private schools aren’t as closely governed as they profess to be
when i was in private school, i had to daydream just to keep my individual mind
then public schools have ugly expectations set onto them by the state.. if you put a metal detector in a school and say it’s because of the gun problem, the problem now becomes a way for the knuckleheads to get famous…
and the knuckleheads are a small niche group. since when has contributing to a niche group been the way to run any organization.. oh yeah, america
hence the state of things, but anyway…
i dunno, i won’t know what decision I’ll make as far as schools once me and my lady have kids
it’s a super complex thing
but all these balling ass fools need to kick in to the public schools. before will smith buys a house so big he needs a dune buggy and has a remote controllable wall – kick in to the schools in significant ways, not these “mysterious” and ineffectual “donations” that don’t change shit
megabusive: thats the thing. entertainers have no accountability.
i’d like to do an entire other interview with you about hollywood nepotism and cronyism
moonbeats: for sure
see, entertainers make large sums of money in short amounts of time… and that money can go towards so much.. i always say.. cancel the “Real World”, put those houses back in the market and contribute the resources spent for that drivel on the community
at least the surrounding community
just THAT would be a worthwhile contribution
megabusive: or make a real world where they build hella houses and train people to do shit
moonbeats: RIGHT
not recent college graduates acting dumb
megabusive: i’m gonna make a show called “earn your fucking keep, you sloppy fuck”
gonna change the world
moonbeats: hell yeah
megabusive: there’s no consequence anymore other than what has become the status quo which is death or prison
moonbeats: right. and since people become spectacles for 15 seconds of fame, it’s gotten even worse
“She had 8 children! Grab a camera!”
“He punched a billy goat in the face! and he’s a mailman! grab an iphone”
megabusive: my grandma had 12 kids.
moonbeats: right
megabusive: and she was black
in arizona
no tv
no cameras
she was just a nurse at a hospital with 12 kids at home
moonbeats: because people as a whole had way more sense back then
the classic values
megabusive: sense is obsolete
invest in arms
like mannequin arms
moonbeats: sensationalism is the new rationale
megabusive: if it ain’t platinum or at least 500,000 views on youtube…it’s about as real as santa claus’ off season nike shox
moonbeats: lol… youtube views are among the most confusing things in life
youtube views are the bermuda triangle of the internet
megabusive: when people tell me how many views something got on youtube makes it worth its wait in latinum…i tell them. latinum is worth its weight in latinum. all purpose
moonbeats: RIGHT
“but look. it’s latinum.” “I know, thank you.”
megabusive: right
cats don’t get it
but cats don’t play with lasers or set clocks on vcr’s and microwaves either
moonbeats: right
megabusive: speaking of which
would you buy a tv that you could cook food in?
moonbeats: no – because i trust food too much and distrust tv just enough
megabusive: that’s sick. like kinectic transmission of bullshit via diode
beacuse microwaves would interfere with reception
oh wait…no science talk
moonbeats: yeah – now would i sample such tv into a beat?
OH YEAH
megabusive: oh but that goes without saying
it’s the only reason i keep a tv
or 3
that don’t get plugged in
unless being sampled
moonbeats: yeah – sample sources are underrated
cats just grab a cd, snatch the first 5 seconds off a jazz song
add Fisher Price drums… bam
well now they bite 9th wonder so it’s a soul greatest hits comp
or they smack two keys on their midi controller and mimic kanye
megabusive: i don’t like the soul stuff much. they call it soul…i call it dilla jacking and being lazy
just saying
boom boom boom+offbeat clap boom boom+offbeat clap (repeat) = the formula
moonbeats: LOL
then u got what i call “synth babies”… dilla drum formula, with 5th snare dragged way off beat, sloppy over compressed sythn on top
“whoa – you’re so vanguard” – they’re gonna be so laughed at in 13 months
megabusive: fuck that detuned shit
not all of it
moonbeats: i stick to raw shit. raw beats – dope drums, snares that sound like i give a damn, covert chops
some of it strikes a nice tune, but sheesh
megabusive: el-p is good with that
moonbeats: well El stays away from the Dilla drum thing
megabusive: he pretty much innovated that for the cyberkids
moonbeats: yeah, for hip-hop
megabusive: i’m only referring to detune
moonbeats: oh word
yeah, “Funcrusher” is pappy to a lotta that
“Fantastic”.. etc
“Fantastic Damage”.. i didn’t get to check out the latest
megabusive: i loved fantastic damage. didn’t like i’ll sleep when you’re dead as much. i expected something way more bonkers, less emo…and def jux had released at least one extremely disjointed so un-jux release by that point. i won’t get into depth on that.
on a side note, cool calm pete is ill. i’d sign him if i could. i should get one of them kickstarts like ras kass
moonbeats: fantastic damage was super thorough
sa smash
that was the soundtrack to my summer when it dropped
megabusive: i liked bazooka tooth quite a bit as well
fast cars danger fire and knives is very skill packed
i’ve learned to appreciate the cold vein
moonbeats: Cold Vein is one of my faves ever
to me it was the reincarnation of Organized Konfusion
megabusive: i’d like to hear vast aire with jihad over shocklee production
moonbeats: Vordul is one of the most singular, illest to do it
megabusive: i hold vordul in very high esteem. only cat with mega in his name that i wouldn’t sweat. cat knows the science.
moonbeats: lol Word
megabusive: even on funcrusher
moonbeats: ?
megabusive: just saying as far back as funcrusher
vordul has been sick
and i’m sure before that
moonbeats: vordul was on funcrusher?
i haven’t heard that album in so long
megabusive: i have way too much on my mind
i’m thinking of j-tredz and vordul at the same time while i’m listening to lazersword with some bull shit top 40. love Lazer Sword. hate top 40. just saying.
moonbeats: no big deal lol
aw man… i remember the hub-bub about J Tredz
i think he’s dope
i wanted to hear more
i just remember the buzz
just off that song
megabusive: verbal flame thrower…servin’ roasted nuts
moonbeats: yeah
wasn’t he the one with the “aerial view” punchline?
megabusive: yep
all kinds of wild shit
moonbeats: yeah he ripped it
Breeze took the track, tho, at least to me
“you’s a loser, decrepit shoulda kept it to your lonesome, now youre like ‘look everybody, im the silly microphone crumb’”
megabusive: first team universal while your squad is mentioned locally
>shrug<
moonbeats: word
megabusive: i’m bumping it right now
i love the internet
moonbeats: lol
megabusive: i want to do a track with j-tredz
moonbeats: is there anymore stuff by him out there?
wait – i remember the source reviewing an ep of his
they said it was dope
either an ep or a demo
megabusive: i’d rather a lot of records had come out on Def Jux instead of some of the ones that did
money is crazy
moonbeats: right
megabusive: like what if prince paul and eyecue did an album?
moonbeats: woooooow
dude – eyecue has the most slept on verse in the Hiero Hobo battle
it was written, but whatever
megabusive: back then…hobo could do that…then saafir went and stole casuals wallet on stage
you can’t top that
moonbeats: i HEARD about that
wow
megabusive: people haven’t seen the tape from the DNA lounge
i think that’s where it was
i haven’t seen it in ages
moonbeats: hilarious… was it before or after the KMEL thing?
megabusive: after…like the next day or some shit
disclaimer…i could have the whole timeline fucked up
moonbeats: and let me get political – shout out to Hiero and Hobo – you’re all super dope – this is just a musical moment in history. lol
megabusive: that was like ’94
i’ve never heard anyone say it, but that may have led to everyone getting dropped. just sayin
moonbeats: what do you think about those Hobo albums
“The Cleaners”
megabusive: i copped the cleaners on vinyl
moonbeats: and um… the one with “Woodwork”
doope
megabusive: my name on twitter is actually a nod to mr. no no
moonbeats: ahhh… ok that’s raw
megabusive: it’s that mixed with the opposite of “mr. me too”
moonbeats: right
“black label” – that’s the other one
megabusive: you’re the first person i’ve explained that to in full detail. now the secret is out like dilla beat formula
moonbeats: word LOL
megabusive: i like hobo junction more than most shit
moonbeats: u know how goofies are about replicating formulas
megabusive: all of it, except for mr. no no
the beats were not becoming of saafir’s caliber
moonbeats: i hear that, but i like that ep still
megabusive: it’s a bay knock for sure
i just wanted to hear boxcar sessions part 2
with aceyalone
moonbeats: hell yeah
megabusive: kids and their dreams
haha
i was 15
or some shit
not older than 18
that was a while ago
moonbeats: yeah i remember when i first pressed play
i was confused… lol
in a good way
“Swig Of The Stew” was crazy
megabusive: when i first heard saafir i said “this fool is fucking retarded. this is bullshit”
moonbeats: lol
megabusive: but thats because i was young and ignorant and i didn’t like the person who first played it for me
luckily the lyrics were in the sleeve of the casette as i recall
moonbeats: word? oh yeah, that’s true… i was still lost lol
it took me a while to get some of the stuff on there
megabusive: and i was like…that’s what he’s saying? then with all the interludes from the other members, i was sold
and the production was so sick
moonbeats: Rashinel’s interlude – BEAST
megabusive: the days when the only jay-z i knew was saafir’s dj
fucking bastards!
the business i mean
moonbeats: yeah – i thought i was the only person mad at Jay-Z for that
like… naw Jay-Z is dude who make beats for Saafir… who is this herb?
megabusive: fucked up thing about jay z is his name has no relevance
and his face has no end
moonbeats: LOL
megabusive: i won’t go off on all that though
moonbeats: oh yeah
but people are batshit crazy
megabusive: hunter thompson was batshit crazy. these mother fuckers are neo evangelion crazy
megabusive: before we cover every topic in the world and reveal all our trade secrets, i think we should wrap up with a couple hot items…
moonbeats: uh huh
megabusive: one…i just want to say that this was fun as all hell and i dodged the following topics on purpose: what equipment you use, what artists you would like to work with, and how you feel about sarah palin. why do you think that is?
moonbeats: i dunno… seems like obvious fodder?
megabusive: blammo
moonbeats: wooord
megabusive: see…smart people ain’t gotta say a lot
moonbeats: hell yeah
megabusive: really smart people have a lot to say without stating the obvious.
moonbeats: JEWEL
megabusive: i be channeling ghandi on every last saturday in may
moonbeats: lol
megabusive: that fool has hella gems he never got to drop
i mean february
may is for lennon
moonbeats: yeah one of the things that sucks about life… geniuses too often are fleeting.. assholes linger
seemingly forever
megabusive: it’d be sick as fuck to see hitler in 2010
but that’s a whole other convo
moonbeats: we saw him in 2000
megabusive: actually…it’d be sick to have seen hitler 2000-2008
moonbeats: and now he lurks
megabusive: hahahaha
we are on the exact same page
moonbeats: lol word
megabusive: ok last question
top 10 mc’s making relevant music today, no particular order
moonbeats: hmm… i’m gonna have to make it “relevant to me”… or “dope to me”… because I’m a hermit towards tv and radio, and plan to change that as far as radio…..
10 dope mc’s
…..
megabusive: i wouldn’t have it any other way
no one on tv is relevant to me
moonbeats: going to my itunes recently played to be literal about it…
Dope Head… E.D.G.E…. Computer Chip… Black Spade… Anon… Ekundayo… Elzhi… Subtitle… Quelle… Count Bass D
those are the 10 dopest mcs in my “Recently Played” list
and one thing i gotta say that got obscured last summer – Black Spade BEASTED on “Starship 27″. I just wanna say that lol
megabusive: uuughhhh…i made the list. over here at stealth melters research labs we strive for relevance
hahaha
moonbeats: hell yeah… “Hello World” goes hard… is it “I’m Good” that mentions trying not to break something?
megabusive: i am definitely honored to hold court with the likes of those listed
moonbeats: or “Groundhog Day”
megabusive: actually that one’s groundhog day
yeah
haha
moonbeats: that’s when it clicked because I’d wanted to break something within 24 hours before i heard it. that set the pace for the ep for me
like “yeah, this shit goes hard”
megabusive: hahaha
life music
moonbeats: hell yeah
megabusive: cats forgot about feelings
men hug and cry
enlightened ones at least
the other ones hit women
moonbeats: in modern rap, youre only supposed to get sentimental about skeezers and import sneakers
megabusive: and japanese denim
moonbeats: right
megabusive: can’t forget japanese denim
moonbeats: shit sucks
megabusive: if your first pair of dunks was 3 different colors…SMH
moonbeats: and ironic bifocals
right
megabusive: well…before we lose our fanbase i want to thank you for the last 4+ hours of good convo
moonbeats: you’re welcome and Thank You. I greatly appreciate it, man
megabusive: for sure man. i figured it was high time someone interviewed you and twitter is far too restricting for the bulletproof critic manifesto we had waiting for folks. in the tradition of some real hip-hop shit…got any shout outs?
moonbeats: my lady because she’s the ultimate. my grandmother, her widsom affects me daily and she’s only a phone call away. the homie Naj Know-It-All, who i co-hosted the “Original Way” podcasts with last year. Anon. Ekundayo… i was gonna try to be witty and succinct, but eff it… Benz and a Backpack, Dart Adams and Clout Mag all day. and a thousand other people. holler at me in person or onlline. not literally tho… bring your voice down. just jokes, lol.
megabusive: word up. well, thank you for your time sir. and, thank you for your dedication and relentless pursuit for learning the knownots
moonbeats: You’re Welcome, man. I strive to be a worthwhile resource and i am a humble servant. It’s my pleasure. Thank You.
im bout 2 get back on this beat cd
MELT SOME FACES
megabusive: handle that player. i’ll shoot you the draft after i laugh at it a million times
moonbeats: WORD lol
i’ll be lookin for it. PEACE
megabusive: should be by COB tomorrow
moonbeats: all good
megabusive: peace!
