SEWN: A ZINE BY SHAWN WHISENANT SF 2011
Sewn is a 24 page full color zine, recently released by Bay Area artist/tagger/skater Shawn “AKO” Whisenant. This zine features scanned collages of found bus passes, dry cleaning slips, photos and other miscellaneous disregarded bits from the streets of San Francisco. Artfully arranged geometric shapes juxtaposed with photographs of various AKO installations that showcase a mash up of painted signage, found shit and small framed drawings closely resemble everything Barry Mcgee.
The hand painted and painstakingly hand sewn cover is seriously ill, to think that the one that I have is out of an edition of 100 is just cray. The amount of work put into loop stitching a series of sequentially diminishing rectangles on each of 100 5.7″ x 4.3″ cover is seriously commendable.
