From Benny’s GoFundMe  Campaign – “My name is Benny Diar, and I’m a paralyzed artist that paints with my mouth. In February 2008, I was in an unfortunate car accident leaving me paralyzed from the neck down.

I am very thankful to still be alive. I was told I would never move, breathe, or eat on my own again. I’ve worked very hard to be completely off the ventilator, eat on my own, and have regained a good amount of function in my arms. I have also worked very hard, after years in a rehab facilities in the LA area, to move back up home to the Bay Area where I now live on my own.

Transportation is a huge part of my independence. Since the accident, being 6’4”, my size has been an obstacle in every aspect of my daily life, especially with transportation. With the size of my wheelchair, I was not able to fit in most public transportation vans/buses, causing me to miss many physical therapy sessions, doctors appointments, and outings.

Now, about 8 years after the accident, I have been blessed to finally get a new wheelchair, and have recovered enough to where I can now travel more and farther. It is shorter, more compact, and turns a lot better. I will always be tall, but with that, I am finally able to fit in 2 certain models of wheelchair accessible handicapped converted minivans.

I did a lot of research and found a good 2013 Preowned Toyota Sienna with 24,005 miles on it. It felt great getting in a van easily for the 1st time. The total for a conversion kit is around $27,000. Since I’m working towards buying used, the van’s total cost is $47, 363. The salesman said the total will be around $52,000, but I hope I will be able to talk him down ;).

I thank you all in advance for your love and support. Any amount given is greatly appreciated. I can’t even express what your generosity means to me.

If you have any questions or comments, you can find me and my artwork on Instagram at @BennyDIAR , or email me at bennydiar@gmail.com..”

pumpkin head

PH Pumpkinhead was a true artist. He crafted his style in both rap battles and making records. What makes him an even better person, is that he was one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. -Da Hermit

Pumpkinhead, also known as PH — a fixture on the underground and battle-rap circuits for nearly two decades, died Tuesday morning (June 9) at the age of 39. The cause of death was not made public at press time. He is survived by a wife and two sons, and only just days ago announced that the family was expecting a baby girl.

Pumpkinhead, born Robert Diaz, collaborated with Talib Kweli, Royce Da 5’9″, Murs, Del the Funky Homosapien, Jean Grae, Wordsworth, Immortal Technique, producer Marco Polo and other veterans of the indie-rap scene. A native of Park Slope, Brooklyn, praised for his distinctive gruff voice, a knack for hilarious punchlines and a humble personality, he was perhaps best known for his 2005 album Orange Moon Over Brooklyn, released by SoulSpazm and distributed via Rawkus Records, the label that helped launch the careers of El-P, Mos Def and others..
