BASKETBALL COURT RULES
Basketball season is upon us once again. The soothing sound of the basketball going through the net, instantly makes me feel the sudden urge to head to the nearest playground and find a pick up game. With that in mind, hopefully we can provide you with some of basketball’s unwritten rules. Basketball doesn’t build character, it reveals it.
10. Do Not Pass the Ball
Pick up basketball is a game that showcases individual skills and allows you to polish your offensive repertoire. If passing the ball was money, everybody on the court would be broke. If you are heading out to the courts to work on your passing skills You’d be better off at home play NBA 2K11. So if you pass that ball, good luck getting it back.
9. Defense is Overrated
Again pick up basketball is an individual game that showcases individual skills. Defense is not an individual skill. Offensively challenged players enjoy defense for obvious reasons. Your Energy should be focused on the offensive end only. So if defense is something you like to hang your hat on? Maybe it’s time to choose another hobby. So leave your Bruce Bowen defensive prowess for another day.
8. No Jewelry on the Court
No jewelry is to be worn during a game. No chains, necklaces, earrings, etc. This helps prevent injury for both the player wearing the jewelry (earring could be ripped out, get fingers caught up in chain, etc.) and the players around them. So please take out your two carat cubic zirconia earrings before stepping onto the court.
7. No Boots, Running Shoes, or Loafers
No Boots, Running Shoes, and Loafers. Basketball shoes only. Whenever you wear anything else on the court, you are risking injury. It is essential to wear proper basketball shoes. Wearing proper basketball shoes will eliminate the medical bills and the snickering coming from the sidelines. Nobody respects a player who comes onto the court with running shoes or Timberlands. It is an insult to basketball.
6. Not a Fashion Show
Whenever playing pick up basketball, please leave your entire Golden State Warriors ensemble at home. Walking onto the court with a matching ensemble will lead to unnecessary attention. Let your play do all the talking for you. 99% of the time a player who chooses his outfit before heading out to the courts is making up for their lack of basketball skill.
10 PREDICTIONS FOR 2010-11 NBA SEASON
10. Wizards will make the playoffs.
When it comes to the Eastern Conference standings, the top five teams in no particular order are the Celtics, Heat, Magic, Bulls and Hawks. The only other teams I have in contention for the last 3 spots are the Wizards, Bucks, Knicks, with the 76ers on the outside looking in. One thing the Wizards have that not too many NBA teams have is a bunch of players with something to prove this season. Then there is John Wall, who New York Knicks Head Coach Mike D’Antoni declared as “unguardable.” that’s if he ever develops a jump shot.
9. Grizzlies will be the biggest surprise of the season.
The Grizzlies possess four all star caliber players Zach Randolph, Rudy Gay, O.J. Mayo and Marc Gasol. With another year under their belt, the Grizzlies will look to improve on team chemistry and defense. Coming off an impressive sophomore campaign, I expect Marc Gasol to be named as one of the most complete centers in the game. The Grizzlies have immense expectations coming into this season and anything short of a playoff birth should be considered a disappointment for a team that possesses this much talent.
NIKE AIR MAX PENNY 1 – RETURN
One of the most recognized basketball sneakers will be making its return to shelves in 2011.The Nike Air Max Penny 1 was Penny Hardaway’s first signature shoe and was made popular by “Lil Penny”. (a tiny puppet voiced by Chris Rock) The Air Max Penny 1 OG ‘Orlando Magic’ colorway will be retroed for the third time and has a release date set for early 2011. At first glance the “Penny’s” looks as if nothing has changed. A pleasant retro from the Penny line.
NIKE PENNY AIR FOAMPOSITE ONE

The shoe that needs no introduction will be making its glorious return to retailers in early 2011. Maybe the most beloved and sought after shoe of the Penny line, the Foamposite One will be making it’s forth go-around in 2011. The “Penny” Air Foamposite One originally released in 1997 was one of Nike’s most innovative and unconventional shoes ever made. The Foamposite One definitely stands outs as one of the best basketball shoes Nike has ever made. Judging by the buzz already surrounding the shoe, we can expect lines beginning to form outside retailers as we speak.

NBA 2K11 – REVIEW
Micheal Jordan finally makes his long awaited return to the virtual hardwood in NBA 2K11. Its been nearly 6 years since his Airness went virtual. After playing every basketball 2K series since its birth, 2K10 left much to be desired. 2K10 was unpolished and gave off a feel as if I was hastily put together, with some of its certain elements downright broken. So after all the hype surrounding Micheal Jordan’s return to the virtual hardwood, I had to see if it was a cheap tactic to lure disappointed fans of 2K10 waste another $60.
……All of the sudden after 3,4 or 6 games later at 3am I felt like Tyrone Biggums after he drank a can Red Balls. “Shazaam!” I also forgot to eat, because I was busy getting my ass kicked probably by some 11 year old in butt-fuck nowhere, but thats another story in itself. Back to the Jordan Challenge, instantly I was reliving a memorable childhood moment when I was greeted by the familiar voice of longtime Chicago Bulls announcer Tommy Edwards “From North Carolina… at guard…. Mike-alll Jorrrrrrr-dannnn!” It was pretty awesome.
Immediately you’re put into the infamous 63 point game vs Larry Bird and the Boston Celtics, where your challenge is to score 63 points, shoot 55%, and collect 6 assists. Not to mention you must complete each challenge with only 8 minute quarters. As the challenges continued, I faced off against the Detroit Pistons, aka The Bad Boys, replayed the 1991 NBA finals with Magic Johnson, and gave the Portland Trailblazers the shoulder shrug en route to 35 points in the first half including six first-half three-pointers (both NBA Finals records) Never was really big on playing dynasty teams, but this a whole other experience. The Jordan Challenge is its own game in itself.
This is the stuff I grew up watching and finally, I get to relive those memories. Thanks in part to NBA 2K11. As it’s gaming audience changes, the people that were 10, 12 or 15 when Michael Jordan ruled the world are now its peak market. And if they’re anything like me, they’ll jump at the chance to see it all again.
JORDAN XIII PLAYOFF’S – UPDATE
Jordan brand just threw us another bone by releasing images of the upcoming Black / True Red Air Jordan Retro 13. It is now being reported that the Jordan 13 XIII ‘Playoff’s will officially release in February 2011. Jordan first showcased the Jordan 13′s in the 1998 All Star Game, where he went on to score, 23 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, and dishing out 8 assists earning him MVP honors. The shoe features a clean black tumbled leather that works well with the unique side panels, while a smooth black leather covers the rest of the shoe. Definitely a must-cop for any true Jordan fan.
MIAMI HEAT BE WARNED: ESPN IS COMING
Just in case you didn’t get enough Lebron James in your life. ESPN will be going to training camp with ‘James’ and the Miami Heat, with it’s coverage likely to out do anything it did on Brett Favre’s annual summer retirement/comeback fiasco. That’s really saying something, considering ESPN ran live helicopter footage of Favre’s SUV ride from the airport to training camp. ESPN will be setting up a studio in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. to bring us 24/7 Miami Heat coverage. So I suppose we can look forward to seeing Lebron James eating two strips of bacon, two egg whites, wheat toast, and a glass of orange juice. LeBron James’ extremely public decision to join the Miami Heat will definitely drive ratings, even if much of the country roots against him. The “villain” aspect of James nowadays will drive more interest, and ESPN is right there to drain the life out Lebron James and the Miami Heat.
